Netherlands to Enforce Stricter Online Gambling Licence Rules Before 2026 Renewals, Yogonet
The Netherlands’ gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has announced a significant revision to its online gambling licence framework, effective 1 January 2026, to prepare for the expiry of the first five-year licences in October 2026.
Under the updated rules, all applicants (new and renewing) must submit a comprehensive “exit plan” outlining how operations would be wound down and how player payouts would be handled in case a licence is not renewed.
Pragmatic Play Exits U.S. Sweepstakes Casino Market, Gambling Insider
Major iGaming provider Pragmatic Play has exited the U.S. sweepstakes casino market, citing a challenging regulatory environment and the heightened legal risks, including a civil lawsuit in California, as the primary drivers behind its decision to stop supplying games to sweepstakes operators
This follows growing regulatory pressure on the sweepstakes model, which operates in a legal gray area under a dual-currency structure (Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins) and faces increasing scrutiny from state lawmakers and regulators across the country
Unibet Faces €75k Weekly Fines for Repeated Dutch Gambling Breaches, NEXT
Unibet, operated by Optdeck Service Ltd. in the Netherlands, is now subject to a penalty order from the Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) requiring it to pay €75,000 per week for each occurrence of offering prohibited sports bets, specifically on corner kicks, yellow cards, and under-21 matches, up to a maximum of €450,000, enforceable through 20 August 2028.
The violations occurred multiple times between October 2022 and May 2025, despite prior warnings. The regulator emphasized that Unibet’s corrective measures have been insufficient and warned that continued non-compliance poses a “real risk of recurrence.”

Allwyn Q2 Revenue Up 6%, Boosted by Digital Growth and UK Performance, NEXT
Allwyn International posted strong financial performance in Q2 2025, generating approximately €2.27 billion in total revenue, up 6% year-on-year, driven largely by growth in its digital segment and momentum in the UK market.
This performance parallels the company’s Q1 results, where total revenue also rose 6%, buoyed by a 15% surge in digital gross gaming revenue, which now accounts for nearly 39% of total GGR.
Ukraine Moves Forward With Lottery Market Relaunch Plans, European Gaming
Ukraine has inaugurated a new state agency, PlayCity, tasked with overhauling regulation of the gambling and lottery sector by digitizing licensing, introducing real-time market monitoring, and formalizing the currently unregulated lottery business.
Established to replace the discredited KRAIL, PlayCity aims to curb corruption, integrate responsible gambling tools (including self-exclusion via the Diia app), and reclaim up to UAH 10 billion annually in lost tax revenue from the shadow market.
Macau Posts MOP 19.75bn in August Gaming Revenue, Second-Highest Since Pandemic, Macau Business
In August 2024, Macau’s casinos reported a gross gaming revenue (GGR) of MOP 19.75 billion, marking the second-highest monthly total since the pandemic, behind only May’s record numbers. This represented a 14.8% increase year-on-year and a 6.2% gain from July, signaling a robust rebound in tourism and spending.

Australia’s Crown Resorts has partnered with Mindway AI to deploy its GameScanner technology on the gaming floor, marking Mindway’s first physical (land-based) integration globally.
This AI-driven solution, created with input from gaming harm experts and psychologists, analyzes player behavior to identify risk and enhance harm prevention. Monthly, GameScanner monitors more than 12.8 million players across 64 jurisdictions.

GambleAware Survey Finds Celebrity Gambling Ads Strongly Impact Children, iGB
A new GambleAware-backed survey reveals that celebrity endorsements are substantially shaping children’s gambling behaviors. Nearly 90% of youths aged 11–17 have seen gambling content online, and 25% admitted being tempted to gamble after viewing celebrity ads, notably rising to 36% among 16–17-year-old boys.
A strong majority believe that under-18s shouldn’t be exposed to such content (around 78–79%), and many call for tougher restrictions on celebrity involvement in gambling promotions.
Sweden’s Spelinspektionen Revives Youth Gambling Awareness Campaign, Gambling Insider
Sweden’s gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, has relaunched its responsible gambling initiative titled “With your future at stake” (also referenced as “With your future at stake”), targeting young adults aged 18–25.
The campaign, which began in 2024, is making a return this autumn, aligning with the start of the school year, and will run across social and digital media. Developed alongside the Public Health Agency and the Enforcement Authority, it aims to raise awareness of the financial risks of early gambling, encourage responsible behaviors, and steer vulnerable individuals toward help.
